UCS 4.1: First Milestone released

We are pleased to announce the availability of the first milestone of UCS 4.1 as DVD-ISO for amd64. Information about download and installation of the milestone can be found in the Univention Wiki in the article UCS 4.1 Development - Testing. Further information about the schedule of the new version can be found in this article, as well.

The milestone aims at channel partners, technology partners and interested parties, who want to take a first glance at the upcoming release of Univention Corporate Server (UCS). It already includes the Docker integration for the App Center and Single Sign-On for the UCS management system via SAML, the Linux kernel in version 4.1 and a pre release of Samba 4.3.

It happened in the past for example that apps required different versions of a software library which caused conflicts on a system. It is one example amoung many. With Docker such problems and other challenges are solved, because apps a encapsulated and especially security is increased. Docker simplifies the deployment of Apps via dedicated containers.

In UCS 4.1 Single Sign-On via SAML is built-in. The UCS management system supports it out-of-the-box. UCS integrates an established Single Sign-On technology that is used and offered by many services in the Internet as business feature. Apps can utilize the framework with UCS 4.1, as well, to for example increase the user experience with a single login to the environment.

The installed system is configured to retrieve package updates from the testing repositories. It allows to easily follow the development of UCS 4.1 by just updating the packages. The milestone is not designated for production use and an update DVD from UCS 4.0 is not available.

Questions can be asked in the Univention Forum in the section UCS.
